Swami SahajanandSaraswati was one of the best known peasant leaders of India he was the one who founded the All India Kisan Sabha. He was named Naurang Rai but later when he took up a journey to find answer to his insatiable quest for spirituality, he adopted the name SahajanandSaraswati.

He was active socially as well as politically, and during the Indian freedom movement Gandhi was his mentor. Swami firmly believed in Gandhian principles and worked closely with him. But he was disenchanted by these once he saw how the Gandhians asked for privileges when in jail. He finally parted ways with Gandhi after the disastrous earthquake which hit Bihar in 1934.

WhenSwami saw how the Zamindars tortured peasants, he approached Gandhi to seek help, but the answer which he got from the freedom fighter filled him with disgust and he at once broke all ties with Gandhi.

Mahatma Gandhi was at Patna during those days and when Sahanand Swami asked him to help the peasants in distress, the former said that the Zaminders are mostly Gandhians and they will take care of the situation. This came as a shock to Swami and he did not think twice before breaking the age old terms with Gandhi. He then left politics and concentrated on improving the lives of the farmers, becoming a great peasant leader of the times.

This person definitely stood by what he thought was right and his words too reflect the same. Flipping through his quotes will indeed fill us with determination.
