18 Inspirational Quotes By JRD Tata That Will Force You To Move Out Of Your Comfort Zone.
Sudha Murthy is chairperson of Infosys Foundation, social worker, author and the wife of Infosys co-founder N. R. Narayana Murthy. A computer engineer and scientist herself Sudha began her professional career working for Tata Motors (then known as Telco). She was pursuing post-graduation from IISc, Bangalore when Telco came for a recruitment drive. However the notice read, 'Lady Candidates need not apply.'
Fuming Sudha decided to write a letter to the head of the company, complaining of the injustice being meted out to female candidates. Unaware of the name of the CEO, she addressed the letter to JRD Tata.
Within a short span of posting the letter, she received a reply from none other than JRD himself. Sudha was to appear for an interview for Telco at the Pune facility. She aced the interview and became the first woman to work on the company shop floor.
Few years down the lane Sudha met JRD in person, when she was posted to Bombay. She was married to Narayana Murthy by then. One day Sudha was waiting for her husband to pick her after work and it was getting dark. JRD saw her and enquired the reason why she was still in office after her scheduled work time. When she explained, he offered to wait with her. Such was the humility of the business mogul that he did not think twice before waiting for an ordinary employee at his empire. When Murthy arrived, Sudha started to leave and JRD stopped her and said, ‘Young lady, tell your husband never to make his wife wait again.'
